OUR STORY
As a sustainable jewellery brand, we felt it was vital to give you the security and knowledge that when you buy from us, you can be sure that the jewellery you purchase has been made in the best conditions and by following the highest of practices of employment. So when we say our jewels are ‘ethical’ we aren’t just referring to the fact that everything is made from recycled material. We encompass the environment and working conditions in which everything was made and the people who make it. V stands by an ethos of longevity, promoting the fact that when you invest in pieces you truly love you take care of them and ensure they last a lifetime.
WHAT MAKES JEWELLERY ETHICAL?
As we expand, we know it is essential to have a globally recognised ethical trading standard behind us to assure our customers that our manufacturing base has been independently audited and approved. We are therefore so pleased to announce that since September 2019 V has been approved and passed by SMETA as being fully ethically compliant allowing us to proudly say we produce ethical jewellery.
SMETA is kind of a big deal. Founded by a group of UK retailers in 2001, SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is an audit that provides a collection of best practice ethical techniques. It is designed to conduct high quality audits that encompass all aspects of responsible business practice, covering four pillars of Labour, Health and Safety, Environment and Business Ethics.
ETHICAL JEWELLERY FROM PRODUCTION TO PACKAGING
Since our launch in 2013, our sustainable jewels have been made by the same single manufacturer. Based in Hong Kong, they too are a family run business and we are lucky to have an incredible relationship with them as both colleagues and friends. As a brand, we have always followed ethical jewellery practices in our supply chain by visiting our manufacturer personally and conducting self-audits.
OUR PACKAGING
A few years ago we introduced a minimal packaging option to reduce wastage if you didn’t require anything fancy. We also launched our Keep Collection which emphasised our use of recycled materials and our ethos of countering fast fashion with jewels that have longevity in their design. In a natural progression of our desire to create jewels that can be kept and loved forever, this year we launched our first fine jewellery collection with our 9ct Signet Rings, using forever-lasting precious metals and timeless design. Buying well and less often is a message we will continue to push along with our use of sustainable materials.
In 2020 we rolled out new packaging made from recycled paper as well as reducing the size of our luxury packaging option. In a bid to further reduce our carbon footprint we are also looking into carbon neutral shipping options for our online orders.
